Welcome
to Senior Year AVID-onians!
This is it!
Advancement Via Individual Determination (AVID) is an academic elective
course that prepares students for college readiness and success. It is
scheduled during the regular school day as a year-long course. Each
week, students receive instruction using a rigorous college preparatory
curriculum provided by AVID Center, tutor-facilitated study groups,
motivational activities and academic success skills. Students
participate in activities that incorporate strategies focused on
writing, inquiry, collaboration, organization and reading (WICOR) to
support their academic growth.
For senior
year, students will focus on college and all the research, activities,
applications and the like to
support students as they apply to four-year universities and confirm
their postsecondary plans.
Emphasis will be placed on life skills for college as well as for career
planning. Students will continue to refine the AVID strategies
begun in ninth grade and evolved in tenth and eleventh grades |
