Setting context for The Great Gatsby. PowerPoint on Modernism Historical context and author bio.  Please make note especially of culture during the 1920s.  It will be referenced often in the novel

The Great Gatsby is, in many ways, a metaphor for the 1920's.  The following documentary will not only feature the people and events that defined the period, it will also identify the fervent, sometimes contrasting, spirit of the period.  Note these influences: jazz, the Harlem Renaissance, the KKK, the new woman, Prohibition, the automobile, gangsters, the movies, immigration, new technologies, credit, celebrity, the stock market, the Lost Generation, etc.

And for even more fascinating notes on 20's duality and "brothels on wheels": The Roaring 20's: Crash Course.
