Poetry Analysis 1
Romanticism: A few major tenets.
"Ozymandias"
by Percy Bysshe Shelley
1818
A sonnet in the
Petrarchan mode.
Read the attached
BBC article for context, especially how the theme of the
poem relates to the final episode of this series.
Scroll down the same article. Listen and watch: Bryan
Cranston from Breaking Bad.
Now read and annotate the poem. Get very clear about
what the text depicts explicitly. Consider what the
speaker depicts and the speaker's meditation on this image.
Now, in a paragraph reflect on the speaker's tone
in the work. What rhetorical device best achieves this
tone? Note: the trailer and the context should help
with this. Make sure you include evidence.
Please include your annotated poem with your submission.
