Romanticism: A few major tenets.

A sonnet in the Petrarchan mode.

 

Read the attached BBC article for context, especially how the theme of the poem relates to the final episode of this series.  Scroll down the same article. Listen and watch: Bryan Cranston from Breaking Bad.

 

Now read and annotate the poem.  Get very clear about what the text depicts explicitly.  Consider what the speaker depicts and the speaker's meditation on this image.

 

Now, in a paragraph reflect on the  speaker's tone in the work.  What rhetorical device best achieves this tone?  Note: the trailer and the context should help with this.  Make sure you include evidence.

The Victorian Period: Major tenets and historical backdrop.

 

Read the poem carefully and consider the tenets of the Victorian period. 

 

The sea serves as an extended metaphor in this poem.  In two to three paragraphs, identify what you feel the metaphor represents and the speaker's meditation on that larger idea.   Consider the rhetorical elements that best illuminate your idea.
